- Giving time for the eyeliner to set. This sounds kind of obvious but gel, pencil, and liquid all have different setting times. I find that liquid dries the quickest on me, next is gel, and pencil takes the longest. If you don't give it enough time to set and you blink, you could get some awful transferring so be patient! On my eyes, liquid liner seems to last the longest and wear the best. My favorite liquid liner is Kat Von D's Poetica Liner in Trooper.
- Putting a bit of a matching eyeshadow on top. I usually do this when I'm using gel or pencil liner because it will absorb any extra oils on my lids or from the product so that the liner is less likely to smudge. Any ol' black, purple, green etc. eyeshadow will do!
- Eye primer. Even when I'm just wearing liner or nothing on my eyes, I love using eye primer to prevent my oily eyelids from going out of control. Oils break down makeup so using something to prevent the oils from forming or accumulating in the first place will help prolong your makeup! My favorite primer of all time is the Wet N Wild Take on the Day Eyeshadow Primer. It's cheap yet effective so that makes it a winner in my book! I've also used the Urban Decay primer and I get mixed results with that. I much prefer the Wet N Wild over the Urban Decay.
- Face Powder. Similar to tip #3, you can dust a bit of your face powder or translucent powder on your lids before you apply your liner to absorb excess oil. You can also use a bit of a translucent powder after your liner to prevent oils from forming.
- Eye Seal. This is a newer product to me, but there are products out there that can help prolong your liner. MakeupForever makes something called the Aqua Seal that can turn powder products into long lasting makeup. ELF also makes a cheaper alternative called the Makeup Lock & Seal. I've used the ELF version and am very happy with how it prolonged my liner and eyeshadow!
So these are just some of my tips for long lasting eyeliner! If you know of any more or use yourself, please let me know! I love learning new makeup tips and I'm sure others would love to hear them too.
Countdown to New Years: 4 hours and 15 minutes!
XOXO,
MWAH
