REVIEW| Bobbi Brown BB cream with Broad Spectrum SPF 35

Still on the fence about whether Bobbi Brown BB cream is worth the money? Read on to find out my thoughts!

REVIEW| Bobbi Brown BB cream with Broad Spectrum SPF 35
I've been using the Bobbi Brown BB cream* for a while now and it's doing well so far. I've never tried Bobbi Brown products before so I was very excited to test this out. BB Creams claim to  treat, hydrate, prime, protect, and camouflage the skin. On Sephora's website, I found this info:
" Inspired by a skincare/makeup hybrid that’s a cult favorite in Asia, this formula combines water-attracting molecules to boost hydration, light-reflective pearls to brighten dull skin, botanical extracts and caffeine to reduce discoloration and redness, pore-refining peptides such as Argireline Peptide to minimize fine lines and fight wrinkles, and broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection with SPF 35 and antioxidants to fend off future damage. This in-between skin perfecter for normal to oily skin also creates a smooth canvas for flawless foundation application and fights shine to give a natural-looking matte finish. Consider it your skin’s new best friend."

If you are familiar with Asian BB creams, you'll know that they usually come in one shade or if you're lucky, two or three. This one however, comes in a whopping nine shades, ranging from extra light to deep. I chose the shade Medium so that's what I'll be talking about today!

Likes:

It offers pretty nice coverage for a BB cream. It corrects my redness as well as my lighter hyperpigmentation acne scars. It lightens the newer/darker ones well. I can layer it over places I want more coverage for a better look. This also smoothes out my pores, which is great because I have large pores around my nose. It also contains SPF 35 which is great for everyday protection. Of course, there's some concern about relying only on your base makeup for SPF as it's said we don't apply enough for adequate protection. I usually use a moisturizer with SPF to help with that, but I've heard that layering SPF products aren't so great either as it diminishes the potency of both by cutting it in half. But with those aside, SPF 35 is good but Asian BB creams usually contain SPF 50. It does set on its own after a while. It provides me a nice hydrated look. It does cake a bit over my driest flakes but if I rub it in a bit more, the flakes disappear. This BB cream gives me a nice hydrated look overall with full coverage if I desire. With the powder over the top, the coverage lasts all day for me with some redness peeking through around my nose, which I tend to rub a lot. It hasn't broken me out which is great. It doesn't have a scent that I can detect.

REVIEW| Bobbi Brown BB cream with Broad Spectrum SPF 35
Left swatch was when it was set. Middle swatch was over a black marker and with one thin layer. Right swatch was just for color.

Dislikes:

I'm not sure if this is the wrong shade for me but it leans a little too yellow/orange on my skin. I'm thinking of using it on my under eyes to correct my blue-ish, purple-y dark circles. My skin does look hydrated when I first apply it but as the day goes on, my dry patches start showing up again. That's a problem I get with other foundations I've tried too. I remedy that with some facial mist, so it's not a major problem. It says that this is designed for normal to oily skin and gives a natural matte finish. I have combination skin, with an oily t-zone and normal cheeks but this is waaaaaay too slick looking for my tastes. I have to powder to bring down the oily look. I do prefer a matte finish so it might be okay for those who prefer a more dewy finish. I've tried going without powder to really test its longevity but I couldn't bear to go out in public in what I felt like an oil slick on my face. This BB cream does start to feel heavy on my skin at the beginning, especially if I layer more product over certain areas. It just feels like I've applied a heavy cream over the top of my face. I don't get this with my watery Asian BB creams.

Bottom Line:

Besides the color matching being off (since that's my fault and not the product's), this BB cream is pretty good but it isn't perfect. For $44 for 1.35 oz/40ml, I don't know if I'd buy the full size, considering my Asian BB creams can be found for much cheaper without needing as much maintenance. I'd definitely try Skin79's BB creams first if you're in the market for one. If you'd like to try it out for yourself, you can find it at Sephora and Bobbi Brown.

MWAH Musings ♥

  • I've cut my hair recently and am loving the cut! It's just above my shoulders and the maintenance is cut down so much....not that I did much before...
  • I've also picked up some eyeliners from Tarte and MakeupForever during their 20% sale items sale...haven't tested them but I love their eyeliners so much!
  • 2013 is coming to an end already! Looking back on this year, I'm kind of nervous for 2014...

XOXO,
MWAH ♥
