I'm not even sure if y'all are even interested in hearing about my childhood. But here we go anyway! If you do have requests, please tell me in the comments!
My childhood was quite uneventful. I never broke any bones (does a twisted ankle count?) and I didn't get into much trouble. Looking through my photo albums was a great trip down memory lane and I hope you'll enjoy hearing about it. :D The pictures aren't exactly in chronological order because there's no dates on them or they're completely off. But that won't affect the story, haha.
Going to Disneyland was one of my favorite things to do every summer. This trip was the one I remembered most fondly because I got to take a bunch of pictures with (most of) the Disney princesses. I wasn't really a fan of Sleeping Beauty because Maleficent scared the bejeesus out of me. But she was so nice and agreed to take this picture (and another) even though her shift was over. I even bought a Sleeping Beauty doll because of this encounter. The doll is long gone but the memory remains. ♥
Like I mentioned in a previous post, my family loved to go to Redondo Beach, a perk for living in California. I thought this photo was so cute and I remember eating bright blue ice cream and staining my face. I've gone back many times but that ice cream parlor seems to have been shut down. I've always wanted my own dog so I posed with this fake one. Don't worry: no dogs were harmed in this photo!
Going to the park was another one of my favorite pastimes. My brothers always climbed the trees but I was always too scared. One day, I decided to give it a try but I didn't get anywhere. So, my mom lent a helping hand and basically carried me up into this position. I was holding on for dear life but my mom thought it was funny so she told me to pose and she snapped the photo. Dimple is out in full force, haha.
I'm not a fan of animals. Anything that moves, really. Sometimes, I can't stand humans. And it all started here, at the Knotts Berry Farm Petting Zoo. I didn't want to go in but my cousin was adamant so in I went. I was hanging around the edges until my mom called me to pose with these lambs? Goats? Whatever they were, I was scared off once they made a noise. I thought it was going to eat me! Little Cindy was not very brave. Still aren't but then I'm old enough to refuse to go into a petting zoo. The rest of the trip was fun though. Even though I couldn't ride the horses because I was too tall. Dang dad and his tall genes.
This photo was taken at Huntington Botanical Garden in the Desert Garden. I remember it was really hot but I got to feed the geese! The funniest (or painful for my brother) part was when my mom told him to tie his shoelaces. Being a teeny kid with wobbly balance, he decided to sit on a stool. Unfortunately for him, his "stool" turned out to be a cactus! My sister and mom spent the next 15 minutes picking spines out of his bottom while the rest of the family laughed out butts off. But not too much because we didn't want to hurt his feelings. We still reference this day when we see cacti, haha. Good thing he's a good sport xD
Every Lunar New Year, my parents would drag us to the temple. It was mostly a courtesy for my religious grandma. So we endured it because later in the day, my dad would take us to the fair! This is one of the rides we went on. My mom snapped this just before the ride started and I looked like I was falling off. So yeah, fun times all around...
And finally, Sequoia National Park! My uncle decided that us kids needed to get out more so he convinced my parents to come along. I remember it being a super long ride (about 4 hours) and my ears popping from the altitude difference.
There was an incident that I will always remember. My oldest cousin thought it would be a good idea to cross a meadow and find General Sherman and take photos. Only the kids went because to clear the water-filled meadow, we'd have to cross a narrow log. That went fine. I mean, my brother came close to falling over but my cousin caught him. When we were about to touch down to the other side, we see a baby bear. The younger kids oohed and ahhed but the older kids immediately tell us to start going back the way we came. As we all know by now, if you see a baby bear, mama bear is close by and we wouldn't want her to feel threatened. Unlucky us, mama bear makes her appearance and I wanted to cry. However, she didn't do anything to us and went her way with her cub. We wait a while before we get down and hike uphill to find this special tree. Once we arrive, it wasn't General Sherman at all but a tree whose roots grow above ground, creating a little cave. Dejected, we take the photo and hike back to our parents. Still pretty cool looking back on it. Terrifying but cool to see a real live bear.
We saw so many cool things, like Crystal Cave and General Sherman, the largest known, living single stem tree on Earth by volume. Or rather, I got bad motion sickness and spent part of the trip puking my guts out. So, my dad stayed behind with me while the rest of the fam went to see the tree. Definitely a daddy's girl. Still had a blast though. This experience is what started me on my whole eco-friendly lifestyle. Even 12 years later, I get annoyed when people leave the lights on or don't sort their recycling properly. Smite those who throw their recyclables into the trash!
So there you have it. Seven of my most favorite childhood memories! Now that I'm at the end of the post, I think I had a pretty good childhood. I remember it being very happy and warm. What do you remember from your childhood? Tell me down below!
