Makeup wipes aren't the best when it comes to makeup removal as the rubbing motions could lead to premature wrinkles. However, if you're in a pinch or just can't muster enough shizz to care about wrinkles, these babies have got your back. The Simple Cleansing Wipes come in a pack of 25 wipes and are tough on makeup yet gentle on skin. Let's see if it lives up to that claim, shall we?
{THE BREAKDOWN}
As I mentioned before, there's 25 wipes in each pack, which is standard. Size-wise, they are similar to my favorite CVS Makeup Remover Towelettes but much thinner and smoother. Because they aren't textured, they didn't remove as much makeup as my CVS, if any. After seeing a lot of rave reviews here and elsewhere, I wonder if I've got a bad batch. These were some of the driest makeup wipes I've ever tried. Because they were so dry, I had a hard time removing makeup, even simple eyeshadow. Forget about any full coverage foundation, waterproof mascara, or eyeliner--this barely scratched the surface of my makeup.
In addition to its ineffectiveness, the scent was horrible. I prefer non-scented products but I can deal with most scents. This one however, is even worse than the Neutrogena wipes. It's been years since I used the Neutrogena scent so it might have improved (I confirm that it has!) and people have different preferences but this one smells like moldy paper. The positive things about this wipe is that it's softer than some, retains its shape well, the ingredients list is short, and doesn't dry out my skin (doesn't contain drying alcohols). I haven't had any irritation from this but leftover makeup residue would definitely cause my skin to break out.
Depending on where you purchase this product, the price varies. The most affordable place is Target at $4.49usd ($0.20usd per wipe) and most expensive is $6.69usd ($0.27usd per wipe) at CVS. If you're interested in purchasing now, Walgreens is offering a 1000 pt reward if you buy 2 participating Simple Skincare, St Ives, or Vaseline Intensive C products.
{THE SWATCH}
{THE BOTTOM LINE}
This is good if you're wearing light makeup or just looking for a midday refresher but if you're wearing a full face of makeup, I recommend you pass on this lest you be left disappointed. I'm currently using it to remove swatches but if you aren't a blogger, I think it's safe to pass on these. I also like to use them to remove sweat after a workout because they aren't soaked and I can apply moisturizer immediately after. I see that they have an Exfoliating version so I might give those a try if I can catch them on a sale.
