Hey everyone! It's the first favorites of the year and
I can't believe how fast this year has gone by. I've been doing some
serious hauling and so I'm going to share some of my favorite finds from
what I've tried this month!
First
up, I've been on the hunt for the perfect everyday base makeup. BB
creams used to be my favorite but they emphasize my dryness if I don't
moisturize well and don't do a good job of controlling my oil. Stila has
this section called, "Phased out Favorites" where you can get some
really good deals on products they're discontinuing/reformulating, etc.
The sad part is if you find something you like, you won't be able to get
a hold of it anymore from them BUT lucky for me, the Perfect and
Correct Foundation is still available in a full size version! I got the
mini version because I was wary about spending 40 bucks on a foundation
that I haven't seen in real life/swatched etc., so worse comes to worse,
I only missed out on $15 and not $44. I have mine in shade Tone, which
is a teensy, tiny little too orange-y for me but if I blend it down my
neck, it doesn't look obvious. I love the coverage it gives. It's light
to medium coverage but you can layer over certain spots if you desire
more coverage. It looks natural in daylight, which is a must if it's
going to be a no-fuss, every day kind of thing. I definitely recommend
picking it up if you're looking for a new everyday foundation. I'll have
a review of this awesome foundation coming soon! You can pick yours up
at Stila.com or Sephora. If you want to try out a mini version before you commit to the full size, it's available here in 4 shades.
I
got my Clarisonic Aria after a lot of debating whether or not such a
brush was needed. I mean, $200 is a lot to spend for my face but I
thought about how expensive facials were ($75 a session at the place I
went to) and thought that this would be a nice investment if it helped
keep my face clear. I got it towards the end of January but I have been
using it every day since I received it in the mail, sometimes even twice
a day! It has made a pretty good difference on my face and I'm excited
to see what else it'll do. I got mine in a special kit with some of the
best selling products from Josie Maran but you can also find just the brush itself at Clarisonic.com and at Sephora. A review will be here soon once I test it out for a bit more.
I've also really been loving my Lorac Unzipped Palette. I got it due to emilynoel83's tutorial
on YouTube and have been using it a lot. I like simple, washes of color
for everyday and there are so many shades in here to do that. If I want
to go a bit more dramatic, I have that option. Every shade here is a
shade that I can (and do!) use often. I dislike palettes where one or
more shade is a little difficult for me to incorporate into my every day
looks, but with the Unzipped Palette, my difficulty lies in deciding
which shade to go with for the day! If you're interested in trying this
palette out, you can get yours at Lorac.com or Ulta. I also have a
review on this nifty palette as well here if you want to see swatches and the like.
I've been having trouble with my mascara lately. For some reason, my eyes have been dry and red for the past couple of weeks and I couldn't figure out why. I decided to test one product at a time and discovered that it was my mascara! I think my eyes are a bit on the sensitive side and waterproof mascara must've been irritating it somehow. I use waterproof because I have really oily eyelids as well as watery eyes. I used to skip out on mascara until I discovered waterproof. I cannot live (well, technically, I can, but I refuse to!) without my mascara so I've been finding new ways to apply it so that it doesn't get too close to my lid. I've been layering my mascaras now because the waterproof one I use now gives me length but not volume. The combination I've been using for the past month or so is one coat of the Maybelline One by One mascara in waterproof Blackest Black as a base, topped off with Benefit's They're Real! mascara. I really love They're Real! but the problem I had with that is that it would end up smudging all over my bottom lids within two hours. Now, I get the longevity of waterproof mascara and the length and volume of They're Real! The best part is that I don't get dry eyes or anything anymore because I use less waterproof mascara (and it isn't a pain in the rear to take off at the end of the day either!). They're Real! comes in a mini $10 size as well if you don't want to commit to the full $23 one at Sephora and Ulta. I have a review of the Maybelline One by One mascara here if you're interested!
Lastly,
to go along with my mascara, I've been loving my ELF eyelash curler! I
never really saw the need for a lash curler before but I've been
converted. I love how it makes my lashes look longer and gives my eyes
that wide-awake look. The best thing about it is that it's only $1! I
recently wore out one of the pads and bought replacements
for $1 for 5. It's gone through a lot (and one of the handles broke off
during a recent trip) but I just super glued it back on and it's as
good as new! They don't sell it online anymore but I heard you can pick
it up in stores at Target.
