I've been dreading to write this post but it needs to be done. I confess, I am a makeup addict. Not just an experimental one but a HUGE addiction. 15 of the posts I've done on this blog have been hauls, compared to 6 empties post (and that's not even documenting ALL of the products I've bought this past year). With my rough estimation, I have over >90 lip products, >57 face and cheek products, and >45 eye products (without counting my tons and tons of eyeliners) spread across THREE makeup drawers, a large makeup bag, a desk drawer, and a large office file storage box. That's not counting my samples, palettes, and stuff that I have stored away for future use. It's not justifiable to have so much makeup, especially since I'm just one person. In an effort to cut back and save more money, I am imposing a No-Buy Ban.(╥﹏╥)
What that means is that I am not allowed to make any beauty or skincare purchases for the next 5 months. Why 5 months? By 5 months, it'll be November and that's when my birthday month. If I can stick to it, I can buy three items during the Sephora VIB Sale. Now before you say, you're trying to get rid of things but you reward yourself by buying more?? (⊙.⊙(☉_☉)⊙.⊙) I know it doesn't make much sense but this is the girl that had packages coming all week, full of new items. If I can even last one month, I'd be happy but I want to challenge myself to stick it out until the VIB Sale. Having a reward at the end is kind of like dangling a carrot in front of a horse to encourage it to walk forward (though I'm not sure that's how equestrians do it but you get the idea). I've been seeing a ton of emails of different promotions and such (which I ned to unsubscribe from immediately) and have been so tempted to just check out the website but I refrained *pats on back*. I was thinking about allowing myself to purchase essentials, like my Paula's Choice skincare items, but I think I have more than enough facial washes and acne treatments to last a couple of years (if they don't go bad before then). This will encourage me to use up whatever products I have lying around here.
The only items I'm allowing myself to repurchase are cotton buds and cotton pads to remove my makeup and apply my toner and such. Nail polish remover is another item I'll allow myself to repurchase when necessary (I have too much nail polish as well but I'm slowly giving them away). Sunscreen and deodorant are other must-have items that I don't think I can allow myself to run out of, especially since it's approaching summer here in the Northern Hemisphere (but you should wear sunscreen every day, rain or shine!). Other than that, everything is off limits until November.
What does that mean for the blog? You won't be seeing any hauls (not that I've been showing them lately) any time soon. I have one last Haul as a send off to hauling--and I wanted to buy a gift for Father's Day and for my brother that recently graduated from high school as well as the Lorac 2 Palette. (╥﹏╥). When it comes to buying something for someone else, I always leave with something for myself too (darn you online shopping!). That's such a bad habit of mine that I seriously need to kick soon. But seriously, that is the last thing for myself. I'm hoping to do more Empties, Product Smackdowns, and Re-Discoveries on a more regular basis (I actually have an Empties coming up soon but I'm just trying to use up two last items before I post it and Product smackdown--just need to test one last shade before the final match). I'll still be posting Reviews and First Impressions as usual. Overall, you won't be seeing much of a change but hopefully my bank account balance will be more stable instead of decreasing.
I feel kind of sad and disappointed in myself for allowing my collection to grow out of control like this but I am determined to change my bad consumerist habits. To end on a happy note, I will be posting a blog sale of sorts. I'm going to be purging my make up that I haven't used and probably never will because I have tons of the same colors from different brands. I'm a bit hesitant about how it will be received but if you think it's a bad idea or if you have better ideas, please let me know. If you have a tips on how you downsized your collection or how you keep from spending more than you should, I'd love to hear them!
XOXO,
MWAH ♥
