--AT A GLANCE--
Taken from the BareMinerals website:"Embark on a total thrill glide with Marvelous MoxieTM Lipgloss. Luscious, vibrant color loaded into a refreshing formula that slips on satiny-smooth for sheer-to-medium coverage with nonstop glistening shine. Lips look fuller and more voluptuous. Naturally-derived Shea, Avocado and Murumuru butters help to deeply hydrate and smooth lips while an infusion of minerals revitalizes lips for a healthy-looking pout. All the while, an encapsulated vitamin A, C and E complex helps to deliver antioxidant defense, so you're ready for anything—and everything."I have these in three colors: Rebel*, Maverick*, and Sparkplug.
--THE BREAKDOWN--
I received Rebel* and Maverick* as gifts from some Sephora gift bag during last year's holiday season. They each contain 2.25 ml/0.07fl oz.- Rebel is described as a pink mauve shade. It is a cream finish with no shimmers whatsoever.
- Maverick is a rosewood shimmer shade. Shimmery but not obnoxiously so, the multicolored by predominantly gold particles are quite small and not chunky.
Sparkplug is a dusty pink pearl shade. Similar to Maverick, the shimmer particles are small but mostly silver. It retails for $18 USD for 4.5ml/0.15 fl oz ($120 USD for 1 oz).
--PACKAGING--
First, let's address the packaging. I'm a sucker for packaging and the sleek, slanted top really makes these glosses stand out. These do store better because the slanted top makes it easy for me to stack them in my drawers. I haven't had a problem with them leaking and the stopper does a good job of removing excess products off the wand so I'm not a goopy mess.--LONGEVITY--
Lasting power is great for a gloss. It is on the sticky side but it isn't uncomfortable or heavy. I can get 4 hours of visible color with light drinking and snacking and 8+ hours of moisture ( I slept with it overnight and woke up with moisturized lips but the color was gone). After meals, I do need to touch up for the color. Being a gloss, my lips don't get chapped or feel dry while wearing it. Even the sparkly shades (Maverick and Sparkplug) last well but the sparkles are left behind which look a little odd; this happens more noticeably with Sparkplug.--SCENT--
My favorite thing about these glosses is the scent. Normally, I don't advocate for scented products but when they smell this divine, I totally love it! If you love mint chocolate chip ice cream, these will totally remind you of it (just don't eat the gloss!). The mintiness does sting a little but it's nowhere as bad as the Buxom Full On Lip Cream (more on this in a later post). Despite the minty feeling, I don't really notice a major difference in the volume of my lips but I don't really seek plumpness properties in my lip products.--COLOR-WISE--
If you haven't read my Lip Addict Tag, I'm not a fan of sparkly lip glosses. Layered over Benefit's Posietint, Rebel is the perfect pink combo for days I want a more natural look. On its own, my lip color (which ranges from pale mauve to rosy red) shows through and gives the light pink gloss a more mauve look. The coolness does wash my complexion out a bit but layered over Posietint or BareMinerals Speak Your Mind remedies that issue. Needless to say, it's my favorite out the trio.
Maverick isn't a shade I would buy on my own. The dark, brown-y berry shade looks a bit like the 90's for me but I decided to give it a try. It does pull more brown than berry on my lips but is a nice shade for fall/winter. The gold glitters are more visible than the ones in Sparkplug but for some odd reason, I don't notice any glitters on my lips when the gloss wears off. Due to its dark color, it is more opaque than Sparkplug.
Sparkplug is a nice natural pink color. If it wasn't for the visible silver sparkles left behind on my lips after the gloss wears off, it would've been my favorite. It isn't as opaque as Rebel but it's nice to layer over my matte pink lipsticks if I decide later on that my lips look too dry.
--BOTTOM LINE--
For the price, I don't think I'll be buying any more. I do like the shades I have but I'm not a fan of glosses in general. My hair is usually down and I hate getting hair stuck on my lips. The glossiness isn't bad on these glosses but I generally prefer a satin or matte lip. The opaqueness and feel isn't bad at all but I much prefer my lip stains and matte lip pencils. If you're in the market for semi-opaque glosses with a nice scent and decent lasting power, these are a good one to try. With 20 shade options available, I'm sure you'll find something that suits your fancy!
