I debated about whether or not I should post this since it's no longer available on the e.l.f. website, but you can find all of the shades in this set individually. Hopefully, this will help y'all decide which colors you should add to your collection!
e.l.f. is known for being an affordable beauty brand, proving that beauty doesn't have to break the bank in order to be effective. Infused with Vitamin E for stronger, healthier nails, the nail polishes are chip resistant and quick drying for a perfect manicure in no time! The Party Set contains 14 polishes in a variety of finishes--metallic, cream, shimmer, and glitter--to fit any party look. These are also formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate (DBP), and toluene free.
Colors
An overview of each shade |
All the swatches were done with one coat (but you can layer it for a more opaque finish). The pictures were taken on an overcast day so there has been some post-production editing for the colors to reflect more accurately.
Metallic- Pot of Gold--This polish is a paler gold with a metallic finish. It is a bit streaky with one coat so I recommend two coats for this polish. Pot of Gold is a 90% dupe-- it is lighter than Sally Hansen's Golden-I.
- Liquid Metal--It's a typical metallic silver polish. This one is quite opaque in one coat but I like applying two for full opacity. Sally Hansen's Celeb City is a 95% dupe; Liquid Metal isn't as glittery.

I'm not even sure which one is which but it's Sally Hansen Celeb City and e.l.f. Liquid Metal |
Cream
- Cherry Bomb-- a darker, cherry red shade with a cream finish. It definitely needs two coats in order to achieve decent opacity. It's a repeat from the Jewel Tones Nail Cube.
- Nude--a tango pink with a cream finish. I normally do not gravitate to wearing nude colors on my nails as it gives me a sickly look sometimes but this pink warms my skin nicely. I wouldn't call it a nude exactly (unless you have a truely pink skin tone) but it is understated enough for most conservative jobs. This is another repeat from the Brights Nail Cube.
- Smokey Brown--This a liver shade (sounds gross but is actually a lovely shade for fall). It is quite opaque in one coat. Smokey Brown first made its appearance in the Jewel Tones Nail Cube.
- Green Machine--a dark hunter green. This is opaque in one coat. A repeat from the Jewel Tones Nail Cube.
- Lilac--a light lilac color. This is quite sheer and you'll definitely need two coats to ensure maximum opacity. A bit darker than Sally Hansen's Lacey Lilac.
- Mod Mauve--a darker mauve shade. It is opaque in one coat. This is another one of those shades that is semi-matte and would greatly benefit from a glossy topcoat.
- Bubblegum Pink--a bright pink, reminiscent of the candy of the same name. I'm comfortable going with just one coat with this polish. Similar to Mod Mauve, it dries to a semi-matte finish.
- Thunderstorm--a jet gray color. This definitely requires two coats for full opacity.

Shimmer
- Red-y or Not--It's a bright red with some red micro shimmers. It's quite lovely for a holiday nail. This is another Repeat from the Jewel Tones Nail Cube.
- Purple Dream--this is royal purple with a red violet microshimmer overlay. This is unique color that unfortunately applies quite sheerly. Three coats makes this color resemble what you see in the bottle. You can layer this over other colors for a dynamic effect. This one also makes an appearance in the 15 Piece Essentials Nail Cube.
Glitter
- Midnight Mystery--This has silver and dark gray hexagon pieces with smaller silver specks interspersed in the polish.
- Enchanted--I'm not sure if this counts as a true glitter but it has white hexagon pieces and smaller white ones suspended in a clear base.

Application
I didn't have difficulty applying these even though I've had them for a couple months now. Just shake the bottle and unscrew the cap. Brush excess color off at the top of the bottle, apply polish to nails with a steady hand. Apply second coat if desired and store polish in a cool, dry area.
Some were streaky (as noted above) but none were impossible to work with. The polishes without glitter didn't have a strong nail polish scent that gives me a headache sometimes. These had decent wear time with a base and top coat. My favorites are Lilac and Purple Dream. As with the Essentials line nail polishes, the cap doesn't align sometimes with the bottle but you can pull off the top and reposition it.
These contain 0.20 oz and are travel sized, which is great for me because I have way too many polishes and the smaller size makes me feel less guilty about not using the entire bottle up. It works out to $1 USD per bottle, which is quite cheap.
Dislikes
Unlike the Brights Cube, there is considerable repeats from the Jewel Tones Cube. The Jewel Tones did come out before this one did but there's so many other shades from the Essentials line that could fit the Party theme of this cube. Nude makes an appearance in all the Nail Cubes that e.l.f. makes which is great for those who love a pink-y nude but for the collector, it's annoying to have so many repeats.
The glitter top coats are quite sheer and you don't get very many sparkles in one application. If I try to layer for more glitters, the coats get quite thick and unsightly because there's more clear base than glitter particles.
A Valentine's Day inspired nail look using Bubblegum Pink, Purple Dream, Thunderstorm, and Liquid Metal (sorry if it looks like somebody else's creation but this really did come out of my head) |
Bottom Line
I'm on the fence about this. It was $14 USD for this kit and 8 out of the 14 polishes can be found in other sets. Most of them can be found individually in the Essentials line. If you don't have any of the other sets, this might be a good introduction to e.l.f. nail polishes as each performs quite well but if you have the other sets, especially the Jewel Tones Naul Cube, you might be better off buying the ones that you're interested in separately. You can't find this set on e.lf.'s website anymore, but as I mentioned, you can buy all of them except Midnight Mystery individually here and Midnight Mystery here. Some of these are generic shades as well so I'm sure many other brands carry similar shades. Purple Dream is really the only unique shade in this set that I would wholeheartedly recommend for any purple lovers out there!
Here's another nail look I created using Mod Mauve, Pot of Gold, and Lilac using elleandish's tutorial |
- Still have a scarf that I was knitting for my cousin's birthday (it was a month ago). I should finish that soon!
- I was hungry but after chewing Sour Patch kids gum, I'm not hungry anymore...should go eat something though...
- Today was such a nice day..sunny but windy :D Really felt like Spring is finally here!
So if you made it all the way to the end of this post, I congratulate you! Since this cube had a lot of repeats, I decided to give them away to all you lucky readers. Go to this post here for the giveaway post! Thanks for sticking it out to the end with me :)
XOXO,
MWAH ♥
