EMPTIES | January 2020

January 2020 makeup, skincare, and haircare empties and reiews
It's been a while since my last post so I thought I would ease in with one of my favorite posts to write about: empties! With what's going on in the world right now, I have time to devote to this space and also, I wanted to reconnect with y'all! So, let's get started with what I used up in the month of January.

EMPTIES | March 2017

March 2017 makeup and skincare empties
Happy Monday everyone! The Monday blues are nowhere to be seen here and with the sunshine, I feel so uplifted. I've been hoarding these empties for a while now so to justify my pack-rat tendencies, let's write about them! This was a slow month for me but I did finish a few full-sized items.

BLOGMAS | Day 9: Sparkly Purple Smokey Eye for New Year's Eve

sparkly purple smokey eye, ciate london & chloe morello beauty haul kit review and swatches, pin up liquid liipstick

Only a few days to the New Year! I don't know about you, but I'm kinda sad that 2016 is almost over. Don't get me wrong, there have been plenty of things to be sad about but I've always prided myself on being a "glass half full" kind of person. So, in preparation, I've created a simple smokey eye that takes minutes to throw on to chime in the new year! So, let's get started.

FOTD | Makeup to Beat the Heat

FOTD | Makeup to Beat the Heat, long lasting makeup, summer makeup, makeup for hot weather. powder foundation routine

It's been scorching hot in California these past few weeks. Major adjustments were needed to keep me looking perky and fresh. Ditching my liquid foundation and cream products, I went straight for powder products for a long lasting finish that didn't melt off as soon as I stepped out of the refreshing blast of air conditioner. So if you have oily skin or live in a hot climate, I hope that this will help you stay looking put together all day long without the need for heavy duty cleansers at the end of the day!

DE-STASHING PROJECT | Going Cruelty Free: Face Edition

Here's the next installment of my Going Cruelty Free De-Stashing Project: the Face Edition. If you aren't all caught up, that's cool, life's busy. The long and short of it is that I've decided to go cruelty-free. I'm starting off with my makeup because that's the easiest for me but then I'd like to sort through my skincare and haircare products as well.

Note that these are mostly my non-cruelty free items with a few cruelty free items thrown in here because I have extra or just didn't care for them right off the bat. Eventually, I want to whittle down my cruelty-free stuff and develop a capsule makeup collection, if you will. So, let's start since I have a ton of products to go through!

BEAUTY ROUND-UP | June 2016: The Throwback Edition

june monthly favorites 2016, benefit high beam, make up for ever hd foundation 120 Y245 soft sand, bobbi brown skin foundation stick 2.5 warm sand, revlon photoready concealer light medium, nyx proof it waterproof mascara top coat, tarte smooth operator amazonian clay setting powder, bareminerals flawless face brush reviews
It's that time of time of the month when I share about all the products I've liked these past few months. I call this the throw back edition because they're all products I've had for a while. Pulling them out for the Great Purge (a destashing project where I go through my entire collection to use up all my non-CF products) reminded me how much I love them. I am going cruelty-free so most of these will not be repurchased but I'll still talk about them while  I have them. Without further ado, let's get into the products!

First off, I'd like to apologize for the blurry photos. I was in a rush to get these pictures because I had a family commitment to attend. When I got back, my mom had already tossed my trash. T_T Why does mom have to be so diligent??? Anyhoo, I'm sure you'll still want to know about the products so I'll just get on with it...

If you're anything like me, you've got a couple foundations sitting there, unused and unloved because the color was off. I've tried a few methods to salvage my foundations and you can check out one method in my DIY Foundation post. PRODUCT SMACKDOWN ┊Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation vs Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation

Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation shade 3.0 review swatches, Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation 128 warm nude review swatches
One of my favorite pastimes is to find affordable alternatives to my beloved high end products. Don't get me wrong, the high end stuff is amazing but being a student, I need to be stricter about what I spend on. Most of the time, the high end stuff is great, justifying the price; with drugstore things, it can be a hit or miss. I've been looking for an affordable alternative to my favorite summertime foundation, the Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation, because I need a darker shade as I inevitably tan, regardless of how much sunscreen I slather on. The Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation appealed to me because I've had good experiences with their concealers. Do I think it's a dead-on dupe? Keep reading to find out!

PRODUCT SMACKDOWN ┊Missha M Flawless Stick Foundation vs Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick

Missha M Flawless Stick Foundation #23 review swatches, Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick 2.5 warm sand review swatches
Ever had those days where you hardly had any sleep the night before and you've pressed the snooze alarm one too many times, giving you less than 10 minutes to get ready? Well, that's my everyday situation and most days, that's alright but some days, I have a presentation or something fancy to attend and my naked face won't cut it. That's where stick foundations come in to save the day (and my face)! The two that I tested are the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick and the Missha M Flawless Stick Foundation. Keep on reading to see which I think is better!

L'Oreal True Match Super Blendable W5 sand beige W3 Nude Beige swatches review, True Match Lumi w5 sand beige swatches, and Infallible Pro-Matte Golden Beige 104 swatches

We're back for another installation of Product Smackdown! I love comparing products that I have in my collection to see what makes the cut and which ones fall flat. Today, I bring you the three iterations of L'Oreal's best-selling foundation: the True Match Super Blendable, True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous and the newest addition, the Infallible Pro-Matte. While each gives me different finishes, I thought it would be useful to hear the pros and cons of each and figure out which one would suit your skin type the best!

REVIEW | Tarte Amazonian Colored Clay Liquid Foundation

tarte amazonian colored clay liquid foundation review, light swatches
As the weather starts to warm up and the days get longer here in the Northern Hemisphere, so too do my makeup changes to accomodate. I look for lightweight foundations that look natural in sunlight yet still covers everything that I need it to. One of the foundations that I enjoyed in Winter and am carrying over to Spring is the Tarte Amazonian Colored Clay Foundation.

UNBOXING | Tarte "Be Your Own Tartetist" February 2015 Set

Tarte Be Your Own Tartetist Review, maracuja miracle foundcealer medium review, gifted mascara review, lipsurgence liquid lipshine exquisite review
My name is Cindy and I am a Tarte addict. There, I said it. No brand is as well represented in my makeup collection, which is much larger than what one would attribute to one sane person. It all started a couple of years ago when my mom (re) gifted me a Tarte Eye Couture Day to Night Palette, which I actually reviewed for y'all waaaay back in my early blogging days. Not only can I expect the packaging to be gorgeous, the product usually never fails me either. The purple theme jives quite well with me and the mission statement is one I can stand behind. I was quite the avid environmentalist in my teens so this brand speaks to me. I even created a 30 minute PowerPoint presentation and habitat about the Amazon rainforest for my AP Environmental Science culmination project (which bored my classmates and was quite overkill, if I'm being completely honest).

Going back to what this post is supposed to be about, when I heard that Tarte was releasing another TSV with QVC, I was intrigued but the items and colors didn't exactly wow me. It wasn't until I saw a slew of Youtube tutorials that I thought, why the heck not...I can always return it if I hated it. I, of course, got it on Auto Delivery as I like keeping my options open and *spoiler alert* so glad I did! Proceed with caution as I turn on "full-on" fan girl mode to the max ;)

REVIEW | Tarte Color Your World With Shades of Clay June 2014 (2nd Installment)

Let me preface by saying Tarte is one of my most favorite brands. The attention to cruelty free and natural ingredients really makes it stand out as an Earth-conscious brand. The Tarte Color Your World with Shades of Clay Collection is part of a 3 piece set from QVC that was available for auto-ship a couple of months ago. As far as I'm aware, the items in this kit, like the foundation, eyeliner, and blush are exclusive to this kit. The primer, finishing powder, lip gloss, and mascara are part of their current line up.

Tarte Color Your World With Shades of Clay June 2014 items

--AT A GLANCE-

The collection is built around the multitasking benefits of Amazonian colored clay. This 7 piece set contains all the products you'll need for a naturally flushed look. To perfect your complexion, the Colored Clay CC Primer and the Amazonian Colored Clay Liquid Foundation are up to the task. Finish off all your hard work with the  Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder. The Amazonian Color Clay Bronzer Blush in Peach Bronze will add a healthy glow and flush.  Eyes are the windows to the soul and the Amazonian Colored Clay Eyeliner in Espresso and the Lights Camera, Lashes 4 in 1 Mascara will frame those peepers to perfection. Finishing off your look, the Lipsurgence Lip Gloss in Flushed will add a pinky tint to your gorgeous pucker. All of these wonderful finds are encased in a large coral makeup bag.
