REVIEW | Ulta Tinted Lip Balm

Hello fellow Spring Breakers! I am feeling so hyped and energized right now (must be all the Trolli Sour Brite Crawlers I've been munching on). If you're not on Spring Break anymore, I'm very sorry but here's a blog post to make it up for you ≧◠◡◠≦.
[Review] Ulta Tinted Lip Balm

These are the house brand lip balms. It contained shea butter and apricot oil to moisturize lips. There are 10 shades from nudes and browns, to pinks and reds, so there's something for everyone. From what I can tell, there is a shimmery version and a non-shimmery version. As of this post, I have three colors: Sweet, Fresh, and Berry.

Application

It's the typical lip balm packaging, with twist ups. The cap sometimes falls off when I throw it casually in my bag but if I leave it in my pants pocket or purse pocket. There's not much I can say...

The pigmentation on these are pretty good. I didn't expect much since these are just tinted lip balms but Fresh and Berry are nicely pigmented for a lip balm, especially Berry, which is bordering on lipstick territory. Berry really surprised me because it was much more pigmented than the other two I tried.

Fresh is a nice color but it kind of washes me out. I like layering it over lip colors that are a little too bright or dark for whatever occasion I need.

I like the slight sheen they give as the high gloss look is not my style at all.

Dislikes

For a lip balm, it isn't as moisturizing as I'd like. Call me spoiled, but the Maybelline Baby Lips is really, really nice (I need to go pick me up some but I'm trying to use up the ones I have T____T). The moisture lasts maybe for 2-3 hours but after that, my lips get really dry and chapped if I don't reapply. I have to really layer and pack it on for the moisture to last longer but then it gets all over my teeth and cups, which doesn't really happen with other lip products I use. This technique doesn't work very well with Berry because it's already so pigmented so I get a really deep color that I might not be looking for.

Also, Sweet is not my favorite at all. It has glitters in that I can totally feel as I apply. It doesn't feel as moisturizing as the other two and the glitters totally stick around when the moisture itself has worn off--gah! It isn't pigmented either but it is a light-medium pink and those don't up very well on my pigmented lips.

All three have a play-doh vanilla scent but it smells more like vanilla, just a bit fake.

Bottom Line

I'd pass on these. They are $6 for .14 oz whereas the Maybelline Baby Lips are $1.99 to $4.49 for .15 oz. The Baby Lips comes in so many colors (18 colors if you count the original, Electro, and Dr. Rescue) and has a much better formula in terms of pigmentation and moisturizing abilities. I have not tried the Dr. Rescue as the eucalyptus in them seems counterintuitive, but the original and Electro are so of my favorite lpi balms ever, especially Quenched. Ulta sometimes has a buy one get one 50% sale or buy one, get one free sale, so if you really, really want to try them out, you can find them here.

MWAH Musings ♡

  • I think the sugar is wearing off cuz I'm starting to feel sleepy...
  • I've been watching Claire Marshall's (heyclaire) videos and I just love how much effort she puts into them. Her style is also impeccable and her kitty is major adorbs.

  • I have a Sephora package coming tomorrow (or later today, actually)! So excited to try out the Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation (So late on this but #BetterLateThanNever)
So that's it for this post! I'm sorry that this post is (again) pictureless, but I'm definitely going to post some pictures up soon.

*Update 02/28/13* Pictures are here! I hope you enjoy them!

XOXO,
