PRODUCT SMACKDOWN| Cetaphil Oil Control Moisturizer w/ Broad Spectrum SPF 30 versus Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 15

Moisturizers are very important. Keeping you skin hydrated and moisturized allows it to look healthy and glowing as well as allowing for a smoother application of your base makeup. Some moisturizers include other skin benefits like acne clearing, SPF, and more! In the ring today, we have Cetaphil Oil Control Moisturizer w/ Broad Spectrum SPF 30 and Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 15!

In one corner, we have Cetaphil Oil Control Moisturizer w/ Broad Spectrum SPF 30! I've been using the Cetaphil Oil Control Moisturizer w/ Broad Spectrum SPF 30 for the past couple of months. Cetaphil is a popular brand for people with dry and/or sensitive skin and they have recently launched the Oil Control line for people with oily and/acne prone skin. It contains 4 oz. of product. The moisturizer is broad spectrum, which means it protects from both UVA and UVB rays.

Having SPF in your moisturizer eliminates a step in getting ready in the mornings. Sometimes, I forget to apply a moisturizer AND a sunscreen so it's nice that this product has both. Some people say it is better to use a separate sunscreen and a moisturizer for more efficacy but if you don't have time in the mornings to wait for both products to absorb, this will do the job! The active ingredients are Avobenzone 3%, Octisalate 5%, Octocrylene 7%; these are chemical sunscreens so they won't give you that white cast. SPF 30 is recommended by dermatologists for everyday use, especially if you are outside a lot or live near the equator (the sun shines more directly at the equator), though I would recommend something with SPF 50+. The sun's rays are responsible for most of the premature aging of your skin so prevention is key!(‐^▽^‐) It is a white liquid-y formula so it spreads very nicely (but be careful not to tilt your hand too much or it will drip onto your clothes!)  It is lightweight which is good for my combination skin and for use year round if you don't like a heavy feeling your face! I haven't broken out using this product, which is a plus! It doesn't have any shimmer or glitter particles like some sunscreen products have.

MWAH Dislikes:

The bottle is a pump dispenser, which can get annoying when you reach the bottom and you can't pump out anymore product. It does have a sunscreen-y smell but I got used to it. As a moisturizer, I feel that it doesn't moisturize very well, especially if I've been using benzyl peroxide on my pimples (which dries out my surrounding skin). My biggest pet peeve is that it claims to "help control shine and provide a matte finish" but that isn't true at all! ᕙ(`皿´)╯ In the mornings, I wash my face, apply a serum, acne treatments, eye cream, and then this moisturizer. Immediately after applying the moisturizer, I notice my skin starts to look shiny. I thought that if I just let it sink in, I'll be fine, but throughout the day, it gets even more shiny! I tried applying it without any other products, but I never achieve a "matte finish". If anything, this makes me shinier than if i didn't apply it! I usually have to blot my face after applying this product if I am going barefaced that day because I look so shiny. The fact that it makes me shiny while my skin is still feeling dry makes me even more irked! It was also more expensive than the moisturizer I had been using previously.  It does say that it recommends using the matching foaming face wash, but I've had such a big disappointment with this product that I'm hesitant to try out the face wash. With the moisturizer I used before this, I would apply it near my eyes to give it SPF protection and I would be fine. This product, however, would sting my eyes like crazy if I did! It could be because this has a higher SPF than the other one.

In the other corner, we have Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 15! It contains 4 fl oz. The Aveeno website describes it as a "daily moisturizer with broad spectrum SPF 15 and exclusive ACTIVE NATURALS® Total Soy Complex and natural light diffusers works to naturally even skin tone and texture and help improve the look of brown spots, while immediately brightening to bring out your skin's natural radiance. I've used two or three bottles of this stuff! It does have SPF, which is a must for me and it moisturized me well enough. It was lightweight and didn't leave me with a greasy feeling. I like the two in one sunscreen and moisturizer as that helps save me time in the morning. I can use this moisturizer near my eyes and it would sting or make me cry (eyes needs SPF too!) It comes in a SPF 30 version now too.

MWAH Dislikes:

Though it claims to help with brown spots, tone, blotchiness, and texture, I did not notice any difference in my skin. I have a lot of hyperpigmentation spots left behind after a pimple and they did not lighten or change in appearance. It also has little shimmers in the formula, which probably is the "natural radiance" part, but it looks really unnatural if you have a darker skin tone. For me, it just makes me look really shiny (I do have combination skin though). My mom uses it and she loves the stuff. It did make me develop itchy red spots and bumps after a while, so I had to find a different moisturizer. It didn't used to do that to me but I think after they changed the packaging, they must've changed the formula as well.

Bottom Line:

I think it's a draw for both. There is no clear winner for me, since the cons are things that I can't ignore. I dislike it when products don't perform as they claim but it might just be because they aren't suitable for my skin. If you do decide to try it out, I hope that it works a whole lot better for you than they did for me!

XOXO,
MWAH ❤
