EMPTIES | August 2013: Part 2 (Bodycare Edition)

Welcome to Makeup With a Heart♡ : Day 6! I had to split my empties into three separate posts because it was getting soooo long! I guess I have a lot to say about these products (✿◠‿◠) Continuing into the important part...

[Empties] August 2013: Part 2 (Bodycare Edition), aveeno daily moisturizer, goldbond foot cream
From Left to Right: Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion SPF 15, Essence of Beauty Sugar Plums Hand Cream, Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 15, Aveeno Positively Nourishing 24-Hour Body Moisturizer in Blueberry + Goji Berry, and Gold Bond Ultimate Healing Foot Cream

I went through a lot of lotions! I have pretty dry skin on the rest of my body (despite my oily T-zone) so I'm constantly on the hunt for a really good lotion that moisturizes really well without feeling greasy or taking a long time to absorb while being affordable.

I have been using Aveeno products for years! Pictured is the AVEENO Daily Moisturizing Lotion  but I used up the AVEENO Daily Moisturizing Lotion with Broad Spectrum SPF 15.  I accidentally grabbed the wrong kind so right now, I have to use a separate sunscreen if I am going out. This was one of the first lotions I've used from the drugstore and I really like it. The formula is white and thin but very moisturizing. It didn't leave me feeling sticky or greasy, which is a must for me. The bottle also lasted a long time for me. When you reach the last inch or so of product, the pump doesn't work anymore. I cut the bottle in half and scraped out the last bits and put it in a reusable bottle to get every use out of it. It was a bit tough to cut through the plastic with my knife but it was doable.
Bottom Line: I will be repurchasing the SPF 15 version because I like multitasking products that cut down on the time it takes me to get ready.

I am slightly germophobic so I wash my hands constantly.  As a result, my hands get really dry and peel-y. I decided to try the Essence of Beauty Sugar Plums Hand Cream because it is available at most CVS Pharmacies. I liked its small size because it easily fit in my purse or backpack. It also had a nice sweet scent. It did the job but I'm still on the hunt for something that doesn't make my hands feel sticky.
Bottom Line: I will NOT be repurchasing.

As I have stated above, I am a huge fan of Aveeno products, so I tried the Aveeno Positively Nourishing 24-Hour Body Moisturizer in Blueberry + Goji Berry. At the Rite Aid I went to, they had this scent and I think a Vanilla + Oatmeal one. I personally love eating blueberries because they are so rich in antioxidants, which help fight against free radicals that damage your skin so this seemed like a match made in heaven. I really loved the blueberry scent; it was pretty strong though so for people sensitive to scents, you might want to check it out in stores first. I used it on my arms and legs and it really kept them nice and soft without being greasy. Even if I sweated that day, the lotion didn't mix with my sweat or anything to make me feel sticky like BBW does. The only thing is that I don't think they sell this anymore, which makes me really sad.
Bottom Line: I would repurchase if they still made this!

I really love the light-weightless feeling of their products and I find they absorb quickly. The Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 15 has been my favorite moisturizers for years. I recently made a switch to one by Cetaphil because I found that the glitters in the Aveeno Moisturizer made my skin itch and breakout. It was surprising to me since I've been using it for years without problems, but last year, my skin started to get aggravated by it. I guess the "radiant" claim is because it had tiny micro shimmers in it. When I applied indoors, the shimmers were not noticeable at all, even when I layered it thickly. The minute I stepped outside, however, I glittered like a Cullen ≧☉_☉≦ (which is cool and all if that's what you want, but I prefer the matte look myself). My friend who has a darker skintone than me noticed the glitters on her face immediately whereas it wasn't as noticeable on my medium skintone. I liked that it is two products in one so it saves time in the morning. SPF 30 is recommend if you are going to be outside quite a bit during the day, but some SPF is better than no SPF.
Bottom Line: I will NOT be repurchasing this product, but only because I have allergic reactions to it.

This might be too much TMI, but I have really dried, flakey feet. It's really hard for me to wear sandals or anything that exposes my feet because they look so gross. Even in the summer, they are dry and cracked. So one summer, I went to Target looking for a deep moisturizer for my feet and stumbled upon the Gold Bond Ultimate Healing Foot Cream. I used to see the commercials all the time on TV and decided to try it out. Boy, am I glad I did! This is really thick so it works wonders for your feet! I showered first, exfoliate my feet and then apply this, wait a minute or two for it to absorb and put socks on immediately after. By the morning, I would have baby soft feet! Even on days where I was too lazy to exfoliate first before applying the cream, it would still work. Within three days of using this, my feet became so pink and smooth! I went through the bottle pretty quickly and decided not to repurchase. That was such a huge mistake because within a week or two of not using it, my feet went back to being dry and gross again! I am now on my third bottle and have not looked back! It is so amazing and I haven't found anything that works better than this for dry, cracked heels/feet! It has a nice, light clean scent, which I love! The smell goes away after a while, which is a bummer. For something that is so thick, it absorbs quite well and you can really feel the moisture in your feet. Some body butters and creams I used to use before I found this just sat on my skin, making everything stick to the bottom of my feet but this doesn't if you let it sink in for two minutes or so.
Bottom Line: I will definitely repurchase! I am on my last bits so will have to run to the drugstore soon!

[Empties] August 2013: Part 2 (Bodycare Edition), bath and body works
From Left to Right: BBW Shea Cashmere Hand Cream in Carried Away, BBW Body Lotion in Peony, and BBW
Signature Fragrance Collection

Travel Size Fragrance Mist in Carried Away
As I've stated before, I wash my hands a lot so my hands get really dry. This hand cream by BBW did not do much moisturizing. It pretty much sat on my skin, making it feel sticky. When I washed my hands, they went back to being as dry as before I applied any. I felt like it didn't absorb well into my skin. For a product containing shea butter, it was not moisturizing at all. I've been testing out a couple of lotions (not all designed for my hands but lotion is lotion!) and I'm liking it a whole lot more than this BBW one AND it's even cheaper. Luckily, I got this in their annual buy 3 minis for $10. The only thing is, this lotion is in a convenient purse size whereas the other lotion has to be transferred to a smaller bottle but that's not a big issue for me. It also contains microshimmers, which I'm starting to find is prevalent in a lot of BBW products!
Bottom Line: I will NOT be repurchasing.

Bath & Body Works products have really nice scents, like this Peony scent BUT they sit on my skin and don't really do much in terms of moisturizing. It feels really thick and greasy and I always end up washing it off because I can't stand the feeling. This bottle is still full because I couldn't bring myself to finish using it. I like how it's highly scented so if you are running late, you don't need to add perfume. Most of the scents are really strong and my brother, who is really sensitive to smells, always gets a headache when I use BBW's products, so I do not recommend using this if you are sensitive like him. I personally love their scents but cannot stand the greasy/sticky feeling. Their body butters and hand creams are also like this. They also add glitter to some of their products so if you are sensitive to those kinds of things, I highly recommend going to the counters and trying out their testers. I personally think their strengths lie in their body sprays, body washes, and bubble baths. I also quite like their hand sanitizers but some of them have glitter in them so beware if you're sensitive to them!
Bottom Line: I will NOT be repurchasing their lotions or body butters.

BBW's fragrance mists are some of my favorite scents. One of my favorite scents is Carried Away. I have the body lotion in travel size, their shower gel (I've gone through three bottles of this already!), fragrance mist, and hand cream! They do have different packaging for their products now.  The scent is like a sweet floral. Online, it is describe as, "...a whimsical blend of lush raspberries, white jasmine and whipped vanilla inspired by the way love sweeps you off your feet." The notes are as follows:
  • Top Notes: Italian Bergamot, Meyer Lemon, Mandarin, Juicy Pear Nectar, Lush Raspberries
  • Mid Notes: Purple Freesia, White Tuberose, White Jasmine, Soft Violet Petals
  • Dry Notes: Creamy Sandalwood, Whipped Vanilla, Musk
I've just reused the spray bottle to house my heat protectant (after I washed the bottle with some soap and water). It comes on a little strong so I usually do two spritzes. It lasts for about 4-6 hours.
Bottom Line: I will be repurchasing this scent! Right now they are having 3 mini body care products for $10 or buy 3 get 3 free!

MWAH ♥
