--PIGMENTATION--

Since it's supposed to act as a lip liner and lipstick hybrid, it's quite pigmented. One swipe is even and full coverage, even on my pigmented lips.

--LONGEVITY--

With drinking and light snacking, I find that it lasts around 6 hours with decent coverage. If I eat a heavy meal or one with a lot of oils, the formula wears off quicker. It does wear off evenly without leaving a weird lipliner halo. These are my favorite lip products for going out to dinner as they do not require much touch ups and last well. They hardly transfer to my glasses or utensils.

--FORMULA--

Most chubby pencils out there combine a balmy texture with color in the ease of a chubby pencil. These however, focus instead on color and longevity, neglecting the moisturization aspect. I don't find the matte texture drying but it definitely picks up on dry flakes. The stick is quite firm and I don't have melting problems if I leave them in my bag or have them in the car. The smell reminds me of the wooden lead #2 pencils, which worried me at first. But the smell could be from the wooden casing itself.

--PARTIAL INGREDIENTS--

Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil • Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride • Glyceryl Ricinoleate • Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax • Beeswax • Myristyl Myristate • Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax • Cetyl Alcohol • Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) • Calcium Sodium Borosilicate • Lecithin • Tocopherol • Ascorbyl Palmitate • Tin Oxide {+/- Mica • Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891)... Carmine {CI 75470) • Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163)...]

--PACKAGING--

The big size reminds me of the jumbo pencils I had in elementary school. It's quite a bit longer than some of the other chubby pencils I have, namely the Revlon Kissable Balm Stains and the Stila After Glow Lip Color. Unlike the others I mentioned, it does not twist up. Luckily, Bobbi Brown included a sharpener for it because the pencil would not fit in standard dual sharpeners. There's a tiny stick attached to the bottom that can be used to remove excess gunk from the sharpener, which is the first I've ever seen in a sharpener. No more cut fingers trying to clean them! I've used it once and it did hurt a little to see the product shaved off. However, it's a nice tradeoff for a sharp tip, which helps with precision work. The cap is secure and I've never had it fallen off and spread all over my bag. The colored bottom is helpful when you have more than one, making it easy to distinguish one color from the other. The glossy black wooden casing is also luxurious looking and has a nice weight to it.

Definitely towers over the other lip pencils in my collection!

--EASE OF USE--

If you can color inside the lines and know how to hold a pencil, you can easily use this pencil. Even with the larger size, I didn't have a problem with application. The sharp point helps you get a precise lip line.  I like to lay the tip on its side for a broad stroke and to keep the tip pointy for longer.

Dusty Pink is a soft neutral pink. Looks great for everyday. Not sure why it looks so dark on my lips but it might have been because my lips were stained from something else when I decided to take these pictures >O<

Electric Pink is a bright watermelon pink. It's a great summer color for those who don't like neon or blue based pinks.

Bright Raspberry is a bright blue pink. It's one of my favorites because it makes my teeth look whiter. This does look a little dark for summer but I think it's perfect for summer nights. Definitely my most used, surprisingly.

--BOTTOM LINE--

I would definitely recommend these! Price-wise, these are on the lower end of high end chubby pencils. Some price comparisons are below:

  • NARS Satin Lip Pencils retail at $25 USD for 0.07oz/2.2g (a whopping $357.14 USD per oz)
  • Stila After Glow Lip Colors are $18 USD for 0.10 oz/2.9g ($180 USD per oz)
  • Revlon Balm Stain at $6.99 USD for 0.95 oz/2.7g  ($73.58 per oz)

My favorite chubby pencils at the moment are the Bobbi Brown Art Sticks and at $26 USD for 0.2 oz ($130 USD for 1 oz), I don't see a need to grab a ton of the NARS. I do love the wider selection of colors and textures that NARS provides but the cost is an arm and a leg...maybe two legs. I do wish there was a wider selection of colors but for now, I'm satisfied with the three I have. I do want to get Harlow Red for fall and winter but I usually do not wear red lips so I'll hold off on that for now. I am a bit worried about the "Limited Edition" section its under, but for now, you can grab yours at Bobbi Brown, Nordstrom and Sephora. Thank to Shari over at Misty Mom for the heads up! I've also talked about these in my Lipstick Addict Tag, so head on over there for other lip favorites!

XOXO,
MWAH ♥
