FOTD | ❤ Romantic Prom Look ❤︎

First things first, I like to prep my face. I make sure to apply a moisturizer (not pictured), focusing on any dry spots so that my foundation will glide over those areas smoothly. I also apply an eye cream to prevent my under eye area from drying out (not pictured). I let that sink in for about a minute or two; in the meantime, I apply my eye primer, lip balm, (do my brows but today, I forgot) and then my face primer.

I move to my base makeup next. I chose Urban Decay's Naked Skin foundation (shade 3) because it gives me medium coverage with a demi-matte finish, perfect for taking pictures. It really does enhance the look of your skin very nicely. If you have drier skin, you could choose MUFE HD Foundation instead. It's important to find a foundation without SPF because it might cause a white cast in flash photography. To cover up my dark circles, I used Benefit's Fakeup Concealer in Medium.

The eyes are the main focus of this look. I start with Buzz (a shimmery red-dy pink) all over the lids. I used Nooner (matte pink-y brown) to define my crease. To darken the outer corners, I applied Mugshot (a satin pink-y taupe). I highlighted my inner corners with Dust (shimmery pale pink). I moved onto creating a winged liner using a dark brown gel liner. To brighten my eyes, I used Pixi's Eye Bright Liner in the waterline and e.l.f.'s Essential Shimmer Eyeliner in Precious Pink (metallic pink) on my lower lashline. A similar color is Milani's Eyeshadow Pencil in Champagne Toast. Finishing off the eyes, I first applied a coat of Lancome's Hypnose Star Mascara* as a base. I layered Benefit's They're Real! Mascara* on top to give extra length. Since I wasn't applying false lashes (I recommend it if you were going to prom but since I was headed to class after this, I didn't want to look overly dramatic), I went a little heavy with the mascara.

Cheeks are up next! I used theBalm's Instain Powder Blush in Toile (warm bright pink) to bring a liveliness to my face; it also lasts a super long time so it's perfect for a long night of dancing! To bring definition to my face, I contoured my cheekbone and nose using Tarte's Park Avenue Princess bronzer.

Almost there folks! Since you'll be having dinner at prom, I wanted to go for a long lasting lip color. I first applied a coat of Benefit's Posietint for a natural pink lip. To keep my lips moisturized, I layered a coat of BareMineral's Marvelous Moxie Lip Gloss in Rebel* to enhance the pink look.

To help prolong the wear of my makeup, I applied Loreal's TrueMatch Powder in my t-zone AND sprayed some Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray for some added insurance.

And we have the final look! I think that if I could re-do my makeup for prom, this would be the look I go for. I remember doing my entire makeup and hair by myself (which is how I got addicted to watching YouTube makeup videos in the first place!) because I wanted to save money. While my eye makeup wasn't that bad, my face was super oily because I didn't know about blotting sheets and oil absorbing powders back then T_T. I'm sorry for the unkempt hair but I had to run to class >_<

Some advice I'd give to guys and girls heading to prom this year:

✿ Bring blotting sheets with you in your pocket or clutch! They don't take up as much space as a powder compact does but it will help you avoid that shiny face in pictures. My favorites are Palladio's Rice Papers, which has a bit of powder to them to help absorb even more oil, but any kind should do.

✿Bring your lip color. Even if it's a long-wearing formula, you'll be eating and drinking (non-alcoholic, I hope!) throughout the night and I haven't really come across a formula that is truly budgeproof and moisturizing at the same time. At the very least, bring a lip balm or something to keep your lips hydrated and soft for that kiss at the stroke of midnight. ;)

✿If you are wearing false eyelashes, make sure to bring eyelash glue! Nothing freaks your date out more than your false eyelashes flapping about O_O

✿If you are going to be wearing heels, make sure to bring some sort of liner sock because you'll probably want to take off your heels. I have a thing about not walking barefoot in a dark, pubic area because I don't know what's on the floor but yeah...

✿Bring plasters, pads/tampons and hair pins. Even if you don't use them, someone in your group might need it! Plasters would be handy for those pesky blisters xD

✿If you're going out to eat after prom (my friends I and went to IHOP and pigged out on a ton of pancakes!), bring your cash and cards--cash would also be handy in case the photographer on site doesn't have a card machine or doesn't accept checks.

✿Aside from remembering to bring your school ID and prom ticket, make sure you enjoy yourself! Even if you don't have a date, going with your best friends is still very enjoyable :) The important thing is that you have fun and celebrate being all dressed up for a night!

So that's it for this post! I gotta go and work on my essay due Wednesday. Thanks for reading all the way down here :) Since you made it this far, might as well head on over to my Get Spring Ready! post for even more fun xD

XOXO,
MWAH ♥
