REVIEW| Yes to Tomatoes Volumizing Conditioner

My hair was going through a rough patch this winter as it was unseasonably cold and dry where I live and I was going crazy trying to figure out how to keep it hydrated since I didn't want to cut it (ended cutting it anyway but that's not important). Cue the Yes to Tomatoes Volumizing Conditioner!

The Yes to Tomatoes Volumizing Conditioner is part of a hair care system formulated to help fine and oily hair achieve its most voluminous self possible. It also claims to cleanse while thickening hair (which sounds a bit too good to be true).

--At a Glance--
It is 99% Natural, which is the message behind the Yes To brand. The conditioner is also petroleum, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), paraben, and cruelty free. The star ingredients in this conditioner are tomatoes and watermelon. The tomatoes are supposed to be anti-inflammatory to help your scalp product less oil and be more in balance. The watermelon "hydrates skin and contain natural fruity acids to naturally exfoliate and cleanse combination skin", according to the website

--Ingredients--
Water (Aqua), Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride Cetyl Esters, Solanum Lycopersicum (Tomato) Fruit Extract*, Citrullus Vulgaris (Watermelon) Fruit Extract*, Chenopodium Quinoa Flower/ Leaf Extract, Ganoderma Lucidum (Mushroom) Extract, Prunus Persicus Nectarina Fruit (Nectarine) Extract*, Capsicum Annuum Extract, Maris Aqua, Maris Limus Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (Aloe Vera)*, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Spirulina Maxima Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf (Green Tea) Extract, Algae Extract, Gingko Biloba Leaf Extract, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Punica Granatum Extract, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Fragrance (Parfum), Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate * Certified Organic Ingredient .

--The Breakdown--
You get 16.9 fl oz / 500 ml for $9.99 USD, depending on the retailer. I got mine in store at Walgreens but couldn't find in anymore (is it being phased out?). That comes out to 59 cents per fl oz.

--The Good--
I've never really used conditioners before because it made my hair really greasy. However, the weather was wreaking havoc on my hair--it was dry and full of split ends. At the time, my hair was all the way to the middle of my back. It looked lifeless and I just needed to add some moisture back into it--big time. This definitely helped add some shine and softness back into my hair.

Some people complained about the smell but it isn't unpleasant. It does remind me of baby powder but not straight up baby powder, if that makes sense. I didn't mind it and I don't think it lingered in my hair for very long. Wish it smelled like watermelons or something though I'm glad it doesn't smell like tomatoes xD

--The Bad--
While it did moisturize my hair, I felt like it didn't add any volume to my hair. Granted, it is quite fine, thin, and long so I wasn't expecting much, but it didn't really do anything in the lift department.

Also, I think it weighed down my hair. I would put most of it on the bottom half of my hair and put some of it through my roots, which was a bad idea as it made them very oily before the day was out. Definitely stick to just the bottom half of your hair.

Another thing was that the packaging wasn't very good. The plastic of the bottle is so rigid that it was hard to squeeze product out. I ended up unscrewing the bottle and just scooping some out with my fingers.

--Bottom Line--
I would pass if you are looking for volume. I mean, it was a decent conditioner but then again, my hair isn't exactly the type need much hydration. I like that it doesn't contain any harmful chemicals, silicones, alcohols, or SLS (which is hard to find at the drugstore) but it didn't really deliver on its volumizing factor, especially when I had really long hair. Nothing really worked to give my hair volume other than curling it but still--it said it was a volumizing conditioner but maybe I was expecting too much; after all, it is just a conditioner, not some miracle worker. If you don't mind decanting it into a more squeezable bottle, it isn't a bad conditioner.  Though the only problem would be to find it as the Yesto website only sells it in a pair with the matching shampoo.
