FIRST IMPRESSIONS | Clinique Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector

Ever despair of finding the perfect product to cover up those pesky under eye circles? I know I do. I don't have the worst under eye circles ever but on days I don't get much sleep (midterm season--ahh!), they get a bit more pronounced. I also get allergies in the Spring and that makes my undereye area look a bit bruised. I got a sample of the Clinique Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector*, tried it out for a week and now I can tell you what I think about this product down below!

I haven't heard anybody talk about this product so I didn't really know what to expect. The actual product comes packaged in a tube with a metal tip applicator, which provides a cooling effect that is supposed to depuff eyes. Clinique claims that it is clinically proven to visibly lighten dark circles by 30% in 12 weeks. It instantly brightens all skin tones. I've listed the ingredients down below.

Ingredients

Dimethicone, Water/aqua/eau, Isostearyl Palmitate, Polyethylene, Polysilicone-11, Butylene Glycol, Ethylene/Acrylic Acid Copolymer-Isononyl Isononandate, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Petrolatum, Glyceryl Polymethacrylate, Morus Nigra (Mulberry) Root Extract, Dimethicone Crosspolymer-3, Caffeine, Mica, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sucrose, Milk Protein\ Lactis Proteinum\ Protene Du Lait, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Extract, Glyceryl Laurate, Quaternium-90 Bentonite, Sodium Chloride, Scutellaria  Baicalensis Root Extract, Whey Protein\Lactis Protein\Protene Du Petit-Lait, Glycerin, PEG-8, Phytosphingosine, Sigesbeckia Orientalis (St. Paul's Wort) Extract, PEG/PPG-18/ 18 Dimethicone, Dimethicone Silyate, Cholesterol, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Linoleic Acid, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Extract, Yeast Extract\Faex\Extrait De Levure, Disodium EDTA, Pyridoxine Dipalmitate, Propylene Carbonate, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Extract, Triethoxycsprylylsilane, Phenoxyethanol, Triticum Vulgsre (Wheat Bran) Extract, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499) [ILN 38539]

Application

Since I had a sample packet, I didn't get any benefits of the metal tip applicator. I use patted a small amount onto my under eye area, going from the inner corner to the outer corner.

Sorry about the blurry picture!
As you can see, the product is an orange-y flesh color, which helps to counteract blue under eye darkness.

Likes

I found that it did brighten up my under eyes slightly. There is titanium dioxide and mica which reflect the light, causing an immediate brightening effect. It was thinner in consistency that concealer and looked really natural without a stitch of makeup on.

There's a lot of beneficial ingredients in this product. Caffeine has lots of antioxidants to help improve the skin.

The silicones present in this product help concealer apply more smoothly over the top. Worn alone, it helps fill in fine lines.

Dislikes

It claims to lighten dark circles in 3 months and yeah, I didn't use it for 3 months, so that might be why my dark circles didn't get lighter. However, I don't think this product can permanently lighten your dark circles as the ingredients that brighten are not permanent but cosmetic, meaning that it only provides the benefit while you are wearing it.

While silicones are nice to help smooth things out, they can be comedogenic for some people. Advertising this as a lightweight cream (skincare product), having silicones in it might be problematic for some people to put directly on their skin.

Bottom Line

I would skip out on it, especially if you have really dark circles. You get 0.34 oz for $39.50, which is expensive for an "eye cream" in my opinion. It doesn't even do a good job at hydrating, which is what I use eye creams for. I didn't notice any permanent lightening of my circles or total coverage of my dark circles. This product was a dud for me, which is disappointing because I hear that Clinique is a really good skincare brand. I guess every brand has its hits and misses... If you still want to try it out, you can find it on Clinique.com and Sephora.com.

MWAH Musings ♥

  • Been working on my cousin's scarf for her belated birthday present...have about 6 inches...her birthday was almost a month ago >__<
  • Really addicted to Lays...and roommate leaves a couple baggies on my desk...want to eat them but I've already brushed my teeth T_T
  • Have to wake up early tomorrow...gotta finish a whole book before lecture--eek

So that's how I feel about this product. The pictures above were taken months ago when I was on winter break so my dark circles weren't that bad. Now that I'm back into the swing of things, my circles are getting darker from the lack of sleep. I don't think that it would work for me now--not that it did all that well when my circles weren't so dark. If you've tried it, what are your thoughts? Have you tried any products that worked at lightening your circles?

XOXO,
MWAH ♥
