I'm (perversely?) satisfied with my title, haha. 50 Shades of Grey has been on my mind lately as the movie hit theaters this past Valentine's Day weekend here in the States. With everyone on my social media feeds talking about it and extensive PR, I couldn't avoid it--if you can't beat 'em, join 'em! My friends and I planned on going to see it but as I wasn't feeling well, we settled on dinner and movies at home instead. So grateful for friends that are willing to change up their plans for little ol' me at the last minute--thanks y'all!
I've been a bit under the weather lately so blog posts have been scarce around here. I actually tried this look out a week ago so that I could post it as a Valentine's Day look but we all know how that turned out (╥︣﹏᷅╥) Anyhoo, no use crying over spilt milk so let's get on with the show! It's not exactly a tutorial but hopefully my explanations will help you see how I created this look :D
If you've been on my blog for a while (which I hope you will!), I love purple and pink eyeshadows so naturally, the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette (reviewed) had to come out. First, I primed my eyes with the Tarte Clean Slate 360 Creaseless Primer. For the eyeshadow, I used Factory (a pinky-brown satin) all over the lid, staying under the crease. To blend out the lid, I applied Nooner (medium pinky-brown matte) in the crease in a windshield wiper motion. To cover some redness and acting as highlight, I applied Strange (pale neutral pink matte-satin) on my brow bone, blending it in with Nooner. I wanted to add a bit of depth to my eyes so I went with Darkside (deep taupe-mauve satin) in my outer corners, applying in a sideways V-formation. I lined my lower outer lash line with Darkheart (smoky black matte w/rosy red micro-sparkle). To add a bit of sparkle and to finish off the eyeshadow, I applied Dust (pale metallic pink shimmer w/iridescent micro-glitter) in the inner corners and inner lower lash line.
For the rest of the eyes, I used a coat of Heroine Make Long & Curl Mascara for length. Next, I applied a second coat of Revlon Grow Luscious Plumping Mascara (reviewed) for volume.
For the face, I applied a 1:1 ratio of the L'Oreal True Match Super Blendable Makeup and the Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream for an extra dewy base. To cover and brighten my under eyes, I used the tiniest bit of the Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer.
Continuing with my face, I applied Tarte's Cheek Stain in Exposed (reviewed) with my fingers, blending everything in seamlessly for a barely there blush. Next, I powdered my face with the L'Oreal True Match Super Blendable Powder to lock in my hard work. Lastly, I applied the coordinating lip color, Tarte's LipSurgence Power Pigment in Exposed.
In the final look photos below, my lips come off very pink but that probably because I oversaturated my photos in post-production. I'm still working on my editing skills so I hope you'll look past that. Thank goodness this wasn't a review & swatch post or else I'd be in deep trouble! Now that I look at my photos more closely, my foundation doesn't exactly match my neck but whatever--wasn't trying to impress anyone that day! I've been trying to use up more of my base products and most of them don't really match me exactly, which is why I kept buying more...
excuse the earbud...was listening to music as I was trying on this look xD |
I'd love to hear what you did for Valentine's Day!
Have/will you see(n) 50 Shades of Grey?
That's a perfect look for V-day! Simple, soft, and feminine. I also used my Naked 3 palette on the day. :D I find that sometimes the lighting can cause the color mismatch between your face and neck, it depends on where you put the light and the angle the light hits you. I'm still figuring it out as well. Haha.
ReplyDeleteI would use my Naked 3 everyday but warm pink eyeshadows can make my eyes look swollen >.< The foundation actually looked off in person but it's much more apparent in photos xD If you figure it out, I'd love to hear some tips! ;)
