Ignore the top...I cut off the top so I could scrape out the rest of the product. xD
There was a good week and a half's left in there!

⇥ AT A GLANCE ⇤

As you all know, I have normal to combination skin. My t-zone gets pretty oily but my cheeks and forehead remain normal. What I'm looking for is a lightweight moisturizer that doesn't give me an oily appearance. Sun protection is a must and if it's unscented, that's a huge bonus. So does this Body Shop Seaweed Mattifying Moisture Lotion deliver?

⇥ THE BREAKDOWN ⇤

The Body Shop Seaweed Mattifying Moisture Lotion is formulated with bladderwrack seaweed extract harvested off the coast of Ireland. It contains no oils and was grown without fertilizers or chemicals, making it perfect for sensitive and normal to oily skin types.
"Vegetarian. Not Tested on Animals. Contains Community Fair Trade Ingredients. No Phthalates. No Triclosan. No GMO."
This tube contains 1.69 fl oz for $18.50 USD ($10.95 USD for 1 oz).

⇥ THE GOOD ⇤

At first, I hated this product. My face was really oily and this did nothing to help curb the oil. It wasn't until I went travelling one day and forgot to pack basically, all my skincare products. I had put this in my carry on since I used it that morning. Lo and behold, it did wonders at keeping me matte for at least 4 hours! It did help that it was winter so my oiliness wasn't as bad as it usually is. If something isn't keeping you as matte as you'd like, I would definitely look at the other stuff you're using underneath to see if it's causing more oil, as something that claims to control oil isn't some miracle product that can stop everything.

It was lightweight and absorbed quickly so that I can apply my foundation right after. When I used only powder foundation, it didn't cause the powder to cling awkwardly in one spot. It didn't irritate my skin nor did it cause my breakouts to worsen. On an everyday basis, it did very well to keep my skin hydrated but not overly so.

I think the fact that the Body Shop partners with other communities to sustainably produce their products is a very admirable thing. They are natural but as well all know by now, that term isn't regulated by the FDA so anybody can label themselves as such. Natural isn't always better.

⇥ THE BAD ⇤

Though this was a pretty good product with some beneficial ingredients, there are a couple of things I would have liked left out, like fragrance, the silicones, and linalool. Though it claims to be non-clogging, for some people, silicones can clog pores and since this is probably going to be one of the first thing someone applies and it stays on the skin for a good part of the day, it might cause some troubles. Added fragrance is unnecessary and can be irritating to some. Linalool is a mix of lavender and coriander and can be highly irritating once exposed to air. The light scent was pleasant and reminded me of the ocean but it isn't totally necessary for me in terms of skincare.

The low SPF is a con for me. I like in sunny California so I prefer all my SPF products to be SPF 30 or above. This might be good if you're going to be outside for a little bit or if you live in a very cloudy place but still, I'd recommend at least SPF 30 for everyday regardless of weather because most people don't apply as much as they need to. Also, the sunscreens are all synthetic sunscreens (Octinoxate, Octisalate, and Avobenzone) which are irritating to sensitive skins.

If you have insanely oily skin, I don't know how much this will help. At the time I was using this, I had really dry cheeks and forehead but slightly oily nose and chin. It did keep the flakes away from my cheeks and forehead while curbing the oil on my nose and chin BUT it didn't keep it entirely matte--more like satin finish.

The price is another hinderance for me. I mean, the one is use now is about $24 USD for 2.4 oz ($10 USD an ounce) and it has SPF 50 PA+++. However, that one doesn't claim to be mattifying and I have to use translucent powder over the top to take off some of the shine.

⇥ THE BOTTOM LINE ⇤

I don't know if I would recommend this for very oily people. This didn't do much for me when I was slightly oily so I'd recommend this more for people with slight combination skin or those who live in a cooler environment--this did nothing when the weather warmed up a bit. If you really want something that would keep your face matte, Mally's Face Defender does a great job of it and it can layered over or under foundation/moisturizer. Just be careful not too overdo it.
