This post is long overdue but let's pretend it's three weeks ago, shall we? Or better yet, let's go back to August 11, 2013...
Back in summer of 2013, I was feeling a bit lost. I had just finished my sophomore year in college and was about to start my junior year. I had a rough semester and didn't do as well as I had hoped. I needed to declare my major soon but still wasn't decided on what I wanted to do. Being home all summer gave me lots of time to myself so I turned to Youtube and beauty blogs to take my mind off of things. Then one day, it came to me: why not start my own blog? I had tried to start my own Youtube channel but was too shy and scrapped that idea. When I started reading more and more beauty blogs, I thought that it would be fun to join the community and be a content creator myself. I almost didn't do it because I didn't want to put my face on the internet but I couldn't sleep one night. My brain was buzzing with ideas and instead of trying to quiet it down, I took out a notepad and brainstormed a ton of names. I'm a fan of acronyms so that's how Makeup With A Heart (MWAH) came about. Looking back, it's a bit childish compared to my actual personality but I can't bring myself to change it, haha. That morning, I decided to post my first ever post, My Beauty Profile. For new readers, that page will list all foundation/concealer matches that I've found for my skin tone. I definitely need to update it but if you have a similar skintone to mine, you'll find all my current color matches in foundations I've reviewed :D
Since that monumental day, I've found a hobby to fully immerse myself in, a sanctuary from reality, and a community that is so open and inviting. Makeup is seen as such a frivolous and vain object but for those of us the beauty community, we know makeup goes deeper than superficial imperfections. It has the power to bring people who wouldn't otherwise meet together, give us the confidence to carry on in tough times--why else do lipstick sales soar even during recessions? For me, it started as a way to ease the cost of prom. Doing my own hair and makeup ensured I remain in full control of my appearance, something important to a control freak like me, haha. Saving money there meant I could spend more on my dress. And the rest, is history. Anyhoo, this blog has been a place I could share my thoughts and connect with like-minded individuals. I've learned to be more eloquent and expressive, take and edit my own photos (still working on that!) and overall, feel like an expert in something, even if it is just makeup. I've definitely come out of my shell and shared more of my personality. I'm a quiet person in real life but with my blog, I've been able to share my thoughts and self freely without the fear of being judged for it. I know there's lots of nasty trolls out there, I'm glad that my space hasn't been polluted with negativity. I've been able to help so many of my friends and family feel and look their best. Even if it has to come off at the end of the day, the feelings remain. For all the non-makeup lovers out there, if y'all feel confident without it, kudos! It's great if you can find inner beauty and self-confidence from within yourselves, but for those who need a little encouragement with a strategic swipe of lipstick, why begrudge them that? Before I go off on a rant or more tangents, let me share the love with all my wonderful readers!
