NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil review and swatches, milk, cottage cheese, lavender, sparkle nude, sparkle leopard, french fries, iced mocha, yogurt
This post is going to be a long one, so grab your favorite drink and get comfortable! I'm reviewing three different types of eyeshadow pencils from NYX: the original Jumbo Eye Pencil, the Glam Shadow Stick, and finally, the Infinite Shadow Stick. If you've been curious as to how each of these perform and compare to one another along with a few other formulas that I've tried, stick around to find out more.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil

⇥ THE BREAKDOWN ⇤

Each pencil contains 0.18 oz for $4.50usd ($25usd for 1 oz). These pencils come in 32 shades in a variety of finishes.  I have 8 shades: MILK, COTTAGE CHEESE, YOGURT, FRENCH FRIES, ICED MOCHA, SPARKLE LEOPARD, SPARKLE NUDE and LAVENDER. These can be used as liner or shadow. They claim to be creamy, gliding on your eyes without tugging, pulling, or fading. We'll see about that...

⇥ PACKAGING ⇤

The Jumbo Eye Pencils are in a typical eye pencil, nothing special. The white packaging is sleek and simple. The cap is clear so you can see what color is inside. However, matching the exterior to the color of the product would be helpful when you have a group of them together. The caps have cracked on me but I didn't drop them or anything. I think I tried to push the cap down too much to prevent the pencils from drying out. Just be careful with them, I guess. These are quite large and a dual sharpener is needed to sharpen these.

⇥ FORMULA & FEEL ⇤

These pencils are on the  dry side. Milk isn't as dry as the others. In terms of dryness, I would rank Cottage Cheese, Lavender, and Yogurt as least dry/draggy, Milk as less dry/draggy, French Fries and Ice Mocha as drier, and Sparkle Nude and Sparkle Leopard as most dry/draggy.

Cottage Cheese is a shimmery white. Milk is a matte white. Lavender is a shimmery lavender. Yogurt is a pearly light brown. The top pictures are taken in the shade whereas the bottom swatches are taken in direct light.
NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil review and swatches, milk, cottage cheese, lavender, yogurt

Sparkle Nude is a light gold with silver glitters. On my skintone, it looks more like a rose-y copper. French Fries is a pearly golden olive. That's such a misnomer as it registers as a warm brown on me. I've had a lot of french fries in my lifetime--even had some today--and none have looked this brown...unless they were burnt. I'm glad that NYX is in the makeup business and not the culinary business xD Sparkle Leopard is a bronze with silver glitters. I thought leopards are more beige than bronze but NYX has misnamed their blushes before (Mocha comes to mind--looks more like a pink than a brown). Iced Mocha is described as a frosty deep bronze. I don't get any bronze from this as it's a very ashy tone of brown--unlike the warmth of a true bronze. The top pictures are taken in the shade whereas the bottom swatches are taken in direct light.NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil review and swatches, sparkle nude, french fries, sparkle leopard, iced mocha

⇥SCENT ⇤

I don't really go around sniffing my eye makeup but these don't have a scent that I can pick up. I've mentioned it before but my nose is really weak. Most scents are lost on me and I'm a repeat offender for having too strong of a perfume game going on...xD

⇥ APPLICATION & PIGMENTATION ⇤

Application on these are the worst. All of them drag on my eyelids and color payoff is so-so. Milk and Iced Mocha applies the most pigmented in one swipe--all the others require multiple swipes to get decent color payoff. Lavender and Yogurt aren't bad in the swatches but on the eyes, they require two layers for full opacity. Cottage Cheese is pretty sheer; I needed four layers for full opacity. Sparkle Nude and Sparkle Leopard are the worst in terms of application and pigmentation. The silver glitters are very chunky and actually feel scratchy on the lids. Blending was easy with my fingers--a brush, not so much. Very disappointed with the pigmentation of these.

⇥ WEAR TIME ⇤

These last about 3-4 hours on my lids before they crease and are completely gone. A thin layer is necessary; I applied these thickly and they creased in less than 2 hours! I usually test these without eyeshadow primer so I assume it would perform better if one was used. I do blot my lids to absorb excess oil before applying them but that didn't help in this case.

NYX Glam Shadow Sticks review and swatches, rose gold, pink ruby, dazzling quartz, elegant marble

⇥ THE BREAKDOWN ⇤

The NYX Glam Shadow Sticks promise vibrant color payoff with the right amount of sparkle. They don't say anything about longevity though. Each Glam Stick contains 0.052 oz of product for $4.50usd ($86.54usd per oz). Available in 16 shades, I have four: Rose Gold, Pink Ruby, Dazzling Quartz, and Elegant Marble.

⇥ INGREDIENTS ⇤

ROSE GOLD, DAZZLING QUARTZ, and ELEGANT MARBLE
Mica, Mineral Oil / Paraffinum Liquidum / Huile Minérale, Isopropyl Isostearate, Polybutene, Beeswax / Cera Alba / Cire d’abeille, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax / Copernicia Cerifera Cera / Cire de Carnauba, Isopropyl Myristate, Hydrogenated Microcrystalline Wax, Paraffin, Polyglyceryl-10 Hexaoleate, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Ethylparaben. MAY CONTAIN / PEUT CONTENIR (+/-): Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Red 40 Lake (CI 16035), Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Ultramarines (CI 77007), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, 77499).
PINK RUBY
Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Mineral Oil / Paraffinum Liquidum / Huile Minérale, Isopropyl Isostearate, Polybutene, Mica, Beeswax / Cera Alba / Cire d’abeille, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax / Copernicia Cerifera Cera / Cire de Carnauba, Isopropyl Myristate, Hydrogenated Microcrystalline Wax, Paraffin, Polyglyceryl-10 Hexaoleate, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Ethylparaben. MAY CONTAIN / PEUT CONTENIR (+/-): Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Red 40 Lake (CI 16035), Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Ultramarines (CI 77007), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, 77499).

⇥ PACKAGING ⇤

Instead of the white packaging, these are in a black, twist up pencil. I like these a lot more because sharpening is a pain in the butt. However, the tip will dull after a while and getting a precise line will be difficult without a liner brush. The cap is sturdy on these and makes a click when you've securely placed the cap on.

⇥ FORMULA & FEEL ⇤

These pencils are on the drier side compared to my beloved Tarte Waterproof Shadow Sticks and Milani Shadow Eyez Eyeshadow Pencil. Dazzling Quartz feels gritty because of the silver glitters. Pink Ruby is really dry and drags on the lids. Rose Gold and Elegant Marble feels the most creamy out of the four I have but it is still nowhere as smooth and creamy as the Tarte and Milani

Rose Gold is described as a muted pink with colored gold pearl. The gold is less yellow so more of the pink shows through. Pink Ruby is a rose colored with gold shimmers/glitters. This didn't really show up pink on my eyes. Rather, it showed up gold with a hint of pink in the shade. If anything, the names for Rose Gold and Pink Ruby should be switched. Dazzling Quartz is multicolored with silver and gold shimmers. I just see a mossy green base with silver glitters. A very pretty shade of green. Elegant Marble is a bronze toned pearl shade. Mine is brown with gold-ish shimmers.

I'm sorry for the extremely blurry picture but I hope it demonstrates the glitters well...

⇥ SCENT ⇤

None detected but my nose isn't the most reliable. At least the scent is overpowering or awful.

⇥ APPLICATION & PIGMENTATION ⇤

These are quite sheer. Swatches below were done with 3-5 swipes. Dazzling Quartz was the most sheer but the effect looked like my lids were editorially wet. Definitely my favorite out of the four. Rose Gold was pretty too but it looks too close to my skintone. It also looks editorially wet. Elegant Marble was the most pigmented and glided well onto my lids. Didn't tug as much as the others. Pink Ruby is the worst in my opinion. It's so dry and patchy. I tried going over it a couple of times to build pigment but it tugged and pulled at my lids so much that it was quite unpleasant.

⇥ WEAR TIME ⇤

As with the Jumbo Eye Pencils, these creased after 2-4 hours on the lid without eye primer. Pink Ruby lasted the longest, followed by Dazzling Quartz. Rose Gold and Elegant Marble lasted about the same time for me but also creased the quickest. Eye primer is most definitely needed if you have oily eyelids like I do.

This happened when I tried to swatch one of them T_T

NYX Infinite Shadow Sticks review and swatches

⇥ THE BREAKDOWN ⇤

The NYX Infinite Shadow Sticks claim to be waterproof and smudgeproof. They can be used as shadow, liner, or eyeshadow base, blendable with either fingers or a brush.. Offered in 9 shades, I have 6: Silk, Almond, Sweet Pink, Flushed, Rose Gold, and Bronze. Do they really live up to the claims??

⇥ PACKAGING ⇤

As these are the third generation jumbo pencils from NYX, they got the packaging perfect on these. The color of the tube accurately represents the color of the product. These also twist up, so no sharpener needed. Overall, I have no complaints other than the sharpening of the tip when it wears down.

⇥ FORMULA & FEEL ⇤

These are still quite dry. Basically, none of these glide on easily at all. Silk, Almond, and Flushed "glide" better than the other three, but again, nowhere as good as my Tarte or MilaniSweet Pink is described as a pearly light pink. It has a slight sheen on it but isn't exactly shimmery or glittery. Almond is a pearly taupe. The sheen on these is pretty. Silk is a pearly nude but nude is subjective to one's skin tone. I describe it as a pearly beige champagne. This is one of my favorite shades.
NYX Infinite Shadow Sticks review and swatches

Bronze is a pearly deep bronze. It isn't deep for me. It has the same sheen that Sweet Pink has--a bit dull but still there. Rose Gold is a pearly "rose gold". To me, it looks yellow orange. Flushed is described as a pearly coral beige. It has a similar shimmery-ness as Silk. The pink tint is very pretty.

⇥ SCENT ⇤

I don't go around sniffing my eye cosmetics often--not that I judge if you do--but these don't really have a scent that I can detect.

⇥ APPLICATION & PIGMENTATION ⇤

Application is meh. They tug and pull. As I mentioned before, Silk, Almond, and Flushed are less tuggy than Bronze, Rose Gold, and Sweet Pink but they all pull my eyelids. Pigmentation on these are really good. All swatches are done in one layer.

⇥ WEAR TIME ⇤

These last from 6-8 hours on my lids with minor creasing towards the end of wear. I don't wear makeup for longer than 8 hours but I'm sure they could go the distance if needed. As before, I tested all of these without eye primer.

⇥ OTHER THOUGHTS ⇤

Out of the three, I would spend my money on the Infinite Shadow Sticks. In terms of longevity, pigmentation, and consistency of shades, they perform the best. I'm disappointed at the small shade range as compared to the Jumbo Eye Pencils (32) and the Glam Shadow Sticks (16) but the aspects mentioned before more than makes up for it. I would only keep Silk, Almond, and Flushed. These are the colors I see myself using the most so I would put up with the tugging.

I was most disappointed in the Glam Shadow Sticks as they are the most expensive per ounce and performed the worst on my oily and hooded eyelids without eye primer. I do appreciate the convenient twist up format and relatively "gliding" application. I would only get Dazzling Quartz because of the color. I don't like green eyeshadow but this one works on me for some reason.

I would pass on the Jumbo Eye Pencils. The vast color range definitely is impressive but the performance is mediocre at best. When I use eyeshadow pencils, I'm looking for something quick, easy, and long lasting. If I have to wear eye primer, I might as well break out my powder eyeshadows and go to town. Out of the colors I have, I like Cottage Cheese, Yogurt, Lavender, and Iced Mocha enough to wear eye primer with them. Price wise, these are the most cost-effective. I am contemplating whether or not I want to pick up Rust, Cobalt, and Strawberry Milk, though I definitely want to see them swatched in store before I buy. I just noticed that I picked mostly food-related colors--must've been hungry when I was deciding which colors to order online xD

⇥ BOTTOM LINE ⇤

These were a bit disappointing for me. If I was only comparing these three formulas in a vacuum, I think the Infinite Shadow Sticks performed the best. However, if I were to compare it to others that I've tried, these pencils from NYX are a pass. The price isn't steep but if you want a drugstore alternative, I'd try out the Milani Shadow Eyez Eyeshadow Pencil. They don't have many colors but the colors they have are phenomenal! I haven't tried the eye pencils from Bobbi Brown or Laura Mercier yet but those are next on my must-try list.

If you got through this entire post, congratulations! It was a super long one--took me 3 hours to write!  I contemplated separating them into 3 posts but I thought having all the information and swatches in one place was more convenient. I might split them up later if I think that's better but for now, they'll be all together.
